Explore the concept
Wonder opens two lines of inquiry: what experience might have brought another person to this view, and what does my reaction reveal about me? The authors connect this practice to moving from judgment toward thoughtful engagement. Wonder is not a demand to remain in an unsafe encounter. It can begin after stepping back. The goal is to make a response more deliberate and informed. Curiosity becomes meaningful when it is followed by listening and reflection rather than used as a polite disguise for disagreement.
A practice to try
Write “I wonder what I might be missing” after a difficult interaction. Name one question for the other person and one for yourself.
